Membership in CDECA provides access to professional information and resources. It is open to any individual who is involved in the design and/or decorating industry and who meets the educational criteria as set out below.

CDECA's membership exceeds 500 members across Canada, including over 300 Accredited Members, nearly 200 Students, and 40 Affiliate Members.

Levels of Membership

VOTING CLASS
Accredited Member:
Accredited Membership shall be open to any qualified person who is engaged in the professional Practice of Interior Decorating or Design in Canada. Accredited Members are qualified graduates of recognized institutions, or qualified by virtue of their many years of professional practice and displayed evidence of meeting the portfolio requirements for membership.

Membership Rights: Accredited members have the right to vote and hold elective or appointive office in the Association.

NON-VOTING CLASSES

i. Student Member:
Student Membership is open to any Student who is enrolled in a program of study in a recognized institution that qualifies the Student for a career in Interior Decorating or Design. Student Members shall not be entitled to all the rights and privileges of Accredited Members and shall not have the right to vote.  Student members may only refer to themselves as “CDECA student  member” until such time as their membership is approved otherwise,  and they may not use the CDECA logo or present themselves other than “CDECA Student Member”  on any marketing or promotional materials, including printed and electronic, while belonging to CDECA as a student member.

Membership Rights: Student members do not have the right to vote but may hold elective or appointive office in the Association.

ii. Educator Member:
Educator Membership is open to any individual who is teaching in a qualifying decorating or design program recognized by CDECA but is not actively engaged in the profession other than as an educator. Educator Members shall not be entitled to all the rights and privileges of Accredited Members and shall not have the right to vote.  Educator members may only refer to themselves as “CDECA Educator Member” until such time as their membership is approved otherwise, and they may not use the CDECA logo or present themselves other than “CDECA Educator Member” on any marketing or promotional materials, including printed and electronic, while belonging to CDECA as an Educator Member.

Membership Rights: Educator members do not have the right to vote but may hold elective or appointive office in the Association.

iii. Retired Member:
Retired Membership is open to any Accredited Member who has decided not to continue an active career as an interior decorator/designer but who wishes to maintain a professional interest in the field by acting as a mentor to new decorators and/or attending educational seminars and networking. Retired Members shall not be entitled to all the rights and privileges of Accredited Members and shall not have the right to vote.  Retired members may only refer to themselves as “CDECA Retired Member” and they may not use the CDECA logo or present themselves other than “CDECA Retired Member” on any marketing or promotional materials, including printed and electronic, while belonging to CDECA as a Retired Member.

Membership Rights: Retired members do not have the right to vote but may hold elective or appointive office in the Association.

iv. Affiliate Member:
Affiliate Membership is open to businesses that supply goods and/or services to the Interior Decorating and Design Industry.  Affiliate Members shall not be entitled to all the rights and privileges of Accredited Members and shall not have the right to vote.

Membership Rights: Affiliate members do not have the right to vote. Principals of affiliate members may hold elective or appointive office in the Association. Affiliate Members may only refer to themselves as “CDECA Affiliate Member” and they may only  use the CDECA logo on any marketing or promotional materials, including printed and electronic, while belonging to CDECA as an Affiliate Member.
